“Digital Media Workshop” Held in Cooperation with the Department of Culture and Communication Sciences

The “Digital Media Workshop,” organized in cooperation between the International Communication and Media Research Application and Research Center (UİMA) operating under Turkish-German University and the Department of Culture and Communication Sciences, was held on 12 March 2026 at the Creative Media Laboratory (YAMEDLAB). The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. (ÜAK) Dr. Büşra Fadim Sarıkaya Tünalp, Assoc. Prof. (ÜAK) Dr. Başak Kaptan Şiray, Dr. Dilara Tekrin, Res. Asst. Dr. İpek Kesici, Res. Asst. Ayşenur Özkan Işık, Res. Asst. İrem Dölen, and students of the department.

New Editorial Team of the TALKİ Turkish-German Journal of Culture and Communication Announced

The new editorial team of the TALKİ Turkish-German Journal of Culture and Communication has been appointed. The journal is prepared with the contributions of students from the Department of Culture and Communication Sciences and coordinated by Asst. Prof. Başak Kaptan Şiray and Dr. Dilara Tekrin.

The Second Issue of the TALKİ Turkish-German Journal of Culture and Communication Has Been Published

The second issue of the TALKİ Turkish-German Journal of Culture and Communication, prepared with the creative contributions of students from the Department of Cultural and Communication Sciences, has been published. The journal was prepared under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Başak Kaptan Şiray and Asst. Prof. Dilara Tekrin, and brought to readers by our student Editor-in-Chief Sümeyye Saniye Köse and the editorial team.

A Double Major Program Has Been Established Between the Departments of Cultural and Communication Sciences and Sociology

By the decision of the Senate of the Turkish-German University dated 05 March 2026 and numbered 2026/29, it has been decided to establish a reciprocal Double Major Program between the Department of Cultural and Communication Sciences and the Department of Sociology within the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences.

Research Colloquium Held at the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences

The Research Colloquium organized by the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences at the Turkish-German University took place on 4 March 2026 with the participation of faculty members and research assistants. The Department of Culture and Communication Sciences also actively participated in the meeting.

A meeting on “Accessible University” was held at our university.

The meeting titled “Accessible University” was held on 18 February 2026 at the Conference Hall of the School of Foreign Languages, organized by the University’s Disabled Student Unit.

Dr. Büşra Fadim Sarıkaya, a faculty member of our department, has been awarded the title of Associate Professor by the Interuniversity Board.

In addition to the departmental meeting held on 04 February 2026, a celebration was organized in honor of Dr. Büşra Fadim Sarıkaya, a faculty member of the Department of Culture and Communication Sciences, on the occasion of her promotion to the rank of Associate Professor.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Posos Devrani conducted the UNICEF–Netflix Digital Media Literacy Trainings.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Posos Devrani, a faculty member of the Department of Culture and Communication Sciences at the Turkish-German University, served as the academic coordinator of the digital media literacy trainings conducted within the scope of the second phase of the UNICEF–Netflix partnership, and personally delivered all trainings held in Ankara, Gaziantep, and Istanbul.

The seminar and workshop titled “Survival Guide in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Artificial Intelligence in Design,” organized in partnership with our Department and the International Communication and Media Research Application and Research Center (UIMAUAM) operating under the Turkish-German University, was held on 26 December 2025.

The second event of the KI–NO series organized by the Department of Culture and Communication Sciences was held on Monday, 22 December 2025 at 13:30 at the TAU Pocket Cinema (Block D, -2nd Floor).

The event ‘Media, Communication and Art Talks - 3 took place.

As the third event of the Media, Communication and Art Talks series organized by the Department of Culture and Communication Sciences, a two-session presentation was delivered by Ahmet Emre Saruhan on 24 December 2025.

The workshop “Shared Cultural Heritage: Multi-layered Places of Remembrance in the Urban Space – Recognising – Preserving – Communicating” was successfully held.

On October 10–11, 2025, the Department of Culture and Communication Studies at the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences of the Turkish-German University (TGU) hosted an international workshop titled “Shared Cultural Heritage: Multi-layered Places of Remembrance in the Urban Space”, organized in collaboration with the German Archaeological Institute (DAI, Istanbul) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

On 10–11 October 2025, an international workshop titled “Shared Cultural Heritage: Multi-layered Places of Remembrance in the Urban Space” was organized under the auspices of the Department of Culture and Communication Sciences, Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences, Turkish-German University (TGU), in cooperation with the German Archaeological Institute (DAI, Istanbul) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The Journal of Culture and Communication Sciences TALKİ of the Turkish-German University introductory meeting held on 25 September 2025.

The Journal of Culture and Communication Sciences TALKİ of the Turkish-German University marked the beginning of the 2025–2026 academic year with an introductory meeting held on 25 September 2025. The meeting was attended by the Head of the Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Süreyya İlkılıç, the Journal Advisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Başak Kaptan Şiray, as well as research assistants and students from the department.

The Faculty Academic General Assembly Meeting Was Held with the Participation of Our Department.

The Faculty Academic General Assembly Meeting was held on 10 September 2025. The meeting began with an opening address by Prof. Dr. Aysel Uzuntaş, Vice Rector of our University and Dean of our Faculty. In her opening speech, Prof. Dr. Aysel Uzuntaş shared evaluations regarding the faculty’s current activities and academic objectives.

The seminar "Web 3.0, Character and Game Design" was held with a presentation by Research Assistant İrem Dölen.

The seminar titled “Web 3.0, Game Ecosystems, and Character Design,” organized by the Center for International Communication and Media Research, was held on April 30, 2025, at YAMEDLAB of the Turkish-German University. The event featured presentations by İrem Dölen, Research Assistant from the Department of Culture and Communication Sciences, and game developer Aşkın Bora Yılmaz, and was attended by Dr. Büşra Fadim Sarıkaya, Dr. Research Assistant İpek Kesici, Dr. Başak Kaptan Şiray (ÜAK), Dr. Dilara Tekrin, and students.

Our faculty member Dr. Detlev Quintern's article was published in the Passauer Neue Presse newspaper.

The article Friedliches Miteinander der Kulturen, based on the presentation given by our faculty member Dr. Detlev Quintern at the University of Passau, was published in the newspaper Passauer Neue Presse on April 12.

Our faculty member, Assoc. Prof. Başak Kaptan Şiray, presented her exhibition "Uncountable Things" to visitors between March 15 and April 4.

From March 15, 2025 to April 4, 2025, Arkitekt will host the exhibition Uncountable Things, bringing together works from three different periods of Başak Kaptan's oeuvre.

Our Undergraduate Student's Success in the TÜBİTAK 2209-A Supported Project.

The research project titled 'Use of Propaganda during the Napoléon Bonaparte Era,' conducted by Ali Yavuz Öztürk, a student of Culture and Communication Sciences, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Posos Devrani, has been selected for support within the scope of the '2209-A Research Projects Support Program for University Students' under the TÜBİTAK Science Human Support Programs Presidency (BİDEB) for the 2024/1 period.
